What is a Roadway Accident?
A Roadway Accident is defined as a traffic accident that takes place involving the operation of one or more motor vehicles. Roadway Accidents can take place in a variety of circumstances and vary with regard to involved parties.
Typically, subsequent to a traffic accident taking place, those involved will be required to complete an accident report prepared by the local authorities. Roadway Accident reports include the location of the accident, the parties involved, the makes and models of the vehicles involved, the damage sustained, and any further legal recourse that may be applicable. However, in certain cases, the involved parties may agree to abstain from filing an accident report in lieu of insurance surcharges and fees.
Types of Roadway Accidents
The following are the most common types of Roadway Accidents:
Hit and Run: A “hit and run” accident involves a collision in which a motor vehicle strikes another motor vehicle or a pedestrian and unlawfully flees the scene of the accident.
Driving While Intoxicated (DWI): A DWI offense involves the illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Similarly, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) can encompass the illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of illegal drugs or controlled substances. The penalties for damage, injury, or death are heightened in such cases.
Pedestrian Accident: This type of Roadway Accident involves injury, damage, or death sustained by a pedestrian as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle.
